A student of yoga since 1985, Cathy Harmon received yoga teacher training from Namaste International and earned her certification in 2004. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance at the advanced 500-hour level (RYT-500).
Cathy teaches a style of yoga inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli, who authored Awakening the Spine. Vanda began to practice yoga when she was in her mid-40's, and found such release and joy in yoga that it changed her life.
Cathy is fortunate to have studied yoga with Irene Beer as well as the late Esther Myers, both of whom were Vanda's students. Classes with Cathy are light-hearted and compassionate. "I want people to feel good in their bodies," she says.
Cathy continues her study of yoga, attending teacher training with Mukunda Stiles, author of Structural Yoga Therapy, and Judith Lasater, well-known for Relax and Renew, the definitive guide to Restorative yoga. Cathy's classes are an amalgam of her many years of learning, teaching and practicing.
In the 1980's, Cathy earned an instructor-level rank in the martial art of Lung Gung Fa Kung Fu--the Dragon Forever Learning. She is proud of achieving that Kung Fu rank, as it required completing a 17-mile survival run in addition to the traditional testing on forms. She taught Kung Fu classes for several years in southern California. During the same time, she was also an instructor with Jackie Sorenson’s Aerobic Dancing program.
Cathy holds B.S. and M.A. degrees in Secondary Education, and she taught high school English and Remedial Reading for over eight years.
